Stephen Keshi dies suddenly at 54

Nigerian football icon Stephen Okechukwu Chinedu Keshi died suddenly in the early hours of Wednesday in Benin City, Edo state. He was scheduled to return to the United States on Wednesday evening before he suffered cardiac arrest. The former international football player and coach had  lost his wife of 35 years, Kate, last year after a prolonged battle with cancer. TheCable confirmed his death from a member of his family as well as one of his close associates. “He was not ill at all, never showed any signs of  illness, but we suspect he never got over the death of his wife,” a friend said. He is survived by four children and his mother. Keshi, the only Nigerian coach to have won the Africa Cup of Nations, achieved a rare feat in 2013 by becoming only the second person to win the trophy both as a player and a coach. Jonathan’s Cousin, Azibaola Roberts Remanded in Kuje Prison over $40m Scam

Former president Goodluck Jonathan ‘s cousin,  Azibaola Robert was on Tuesday ordered to be remanded in Kuje Prison by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja pending the determination of his bail application. According to NTA , Azibaola and his wife, Stella , were arraigned alongside their company, One Plus Holding Limited on a 7-count charge bordering on money laundering, criminal breach of trust and corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. They were alleged to have diverted $40million (forty million US dollars) purportedly meant for the supply of tactical communication kits for Special Forces. The funds were alleged to have been transferred from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the domiciliary account of their company. Rights Commission Probes Alleged Travel Restriction On Fayose

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) says it will investigate the travel restriction allegedly placed on the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose and one other Governor from the south-south by the Federal Government.     Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Bem Angwe, made the plan know on Monday while addressing members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly. The lawmakers were in his office to submit a petition on the alleged placement of travel ban on Governor Fayose and the illegal arrest and detention for a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly. Ekiti State House of Assembly had petitioned the NHRC, National Assembly, Amnesty International, Embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom over the alleged plot by the Federal Government to prevent Governor Fayose from traveling outside Nigeria without getting clearance from the Department of State Service. Kimbo Slice dead at 42

Popular mixed martial arts fighter Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson has died. He was 42.  Slice was stricken at his South Florida home and taken Monday afternoon to the Northwest Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, a spokeswoman for the Coral Springs, Fla., Police told Yahoo Sports on Monday. He later died. Bellator president Scott Coker confirmed Slice's death in a statement: "We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family. One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that trancended the sport." Doctors to begin nationwide strike on Thursday June 9th

Members of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) has said that they will be going on a nationwide strike starting from Thursday June 9th. President of the association, Muhammad Askira, announced this today June 7th. According to him, they are taking the painful decision of embarking on the strike action following the failure of the federal government to meet its demands of better working condition and better remuneration. He added that the decision to go on strike was taken at the associations ordinary general meeting in Jos from May 30th to June 5th “Sixteen out of 58 federal tertiary institutions or centres were exempted from the initial centre based strike for the commitment of the chief medical director of the hospitals to implement the federal government’s directives.
